BOYS OR GIRLS?
WHAT IS MY REAL DESIRE? DO I
WANT BOTH?

| A
bisexual person feels sexually attracted to persons of
either sex and has the potential to engage in sexual
relationships with both boys and girls at one time or
another. Sometimes bisexuality is a transitional phase in
a person's developing sexual orientation. Other times, it
is a permanent sexual orientation. Although straight
people as well as gay people occasionally may have
bisexual desires, there is no such thing as a
"typical" bisexual. Humankind is wonderfully diverse in its sexual orientations. And sexual orientations can vary greatly from one person to another. If you can think of sexuality as a continuum rather than fixed little compartments, you can get a better idea of the varieties of passion and desire that humankind is capable of. Sure, there are very distinct heterosexuals and very distinct homosexuals also. But even within each of these exclusive communities, there are as many varieties of heterosexual and homosexual expression as there are Heinz' pickles. Because most societies define their sexualities in terms of the majority practice, bisexuals, like homosexuals, are considered out of the mainstream and hence threatening. Thus, they often associate politically and otherwise with other "social/sexual outcasts" such as gay and transgendered persons. Being bisexual may produce many difficult life-situations, but suppressing one's complex sexual desires can generate even more physical and emotional disruption.
